Born in Singapore, she started her music career at 17 in the contest held by Singapore TV and Radio Corporation. Her first album (released in 1989) was promoted by producers from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Every new work was bringing her a success in an ever growing number of countries. In Japan, her song was included in the international singles chart. According to the results of the survey conducted by the Korean youth magazine «Hai-Tin,» she was acknowledged the best  foreign female singer. She composes music and is very successful as a movie actress.
